Public input sought on Howard County bridge project

MoDOT to hold public meeting in Fayette and three-week open comment period to follow

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Transportation is seeking community input on a project which will replace the Missouri Route 240 bridge over Salt Creek in Howard County, south of Fayette. Built in 1932the bridge is in fair condition and reaching the end of its usable life. Replacing the 93-year-old bridge will require a full closure of Route 240 at the bridge, with a signed detour. Construction is expected in 2027. 

Public input is essential to help guide the design and construction process. There are multiple ways to comment, question and provide insight: in person, online, by email, and by mail. 

The public is invited to attend an open-house style public meeting on ThursdayMarch 5, at the Keller Building600 W. Morrison Street, in Fayette. Visitors may stop by at any time between 4:3and 6 p.m. to speak with project team members, view exhibits outlining the planned workask questions and leave comments. There will be no formal presentation. Meeting materials will also be available online. MoDOT is committed to providing equal access to this event for all participants. In addition to the public meeting, there will be a three-week open comment period running Feb. 26 – March 19, 2026. Input may be submitted online through a form on the project webpage (www.modot.org/projects/missouri-route-240-bridge-replacement-over-salt-creek-howard-county), emailed to CDCR@modot.mo.gov, or mailed to 1511 Missouri Boulevard, Jefferson City, MO, 65109. All comments must be received or postmarked by March 19, 2026
