ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – All lanes of Interstate 29 in Buchanan County are now open. Contractors from Clarkson Construction Company, working with the Missouri Department of Transportation, reopened the interstate ahead of schedule at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 8. The interstate was originally scheduled to reopen at 5 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 9.
This closure allowed the contractor to demolish the Gene Field Road Bridge. The bridge replacement project is anticipated to be complete by July 2026.
Overnight lane closures on I-29 below the bridge may occur between 6 p.m. and 10 a.m. throughout project construction. A 10.6-foot width restriction will be in place.
