CLAY/JACKSON COUNTIES - The Missouri Department of Transportation will close the northbound U.S. 169 viaduct bridge over the BSNF railroad located just north of the Buck O’Neil Bridge and the downtown airport beginning TODAY, Tuesday, Dec. 16. The full closure will remain in place until further evaluation can be completed.
Motorists traveling on SB U.S. 169 will not be impacted.
The following traffic impacts will be in place during the closure:
- Access to the downtown airport will be maintained on NB U.S 169 through an access lane across the Buck O’Neil Bridge beginning at 5th Street and Broadway Ave.
- Airport traffic traveling on NB U.S. 169 will be required to exit at Harlem Rd.
- All ramps from Richards Rd. to NB U.S. 169 will be closed.
- The ramp from NB I-35 to NB U.S. 169 will be closed.
- Traffic will be required to utilize SB U.S. 169 when leaving the downtown airport.
Motorists traveling on NB U.S. 169 are encouraged to utilize MO 9 and Interstate 29/35 to navigate around the closure.

Motorists are reminded to slow down and pay attention while driving in work zones. Not all work zones look alike. They can also be short-term, temporary lane closures to make quick repairs or remove debris from the roadway.
