What is MoDOT doing on this project?

Beginning next spring, crews will begin cutting or lowering the hill to improve sight distance at the intersection of Route H and Pink Hill/Renick Road. Click here to see a plan for what will be removed.

How will this project benefit me?

Safety is always one of MoDOT's first priorities and this project will directly address the safety of the more than 4,000 motorists who travel this stretch of roadway daily. By removing obstacles to sight distance, it allows drivers to calculate the safest time to enter or exit this intersection. Currently hills and other obstructions could block those sight lines.

Some safety signaling was added at this location in 2013 to warn of approaching vehicles. This project would offer a more permanent solution.

MoDOT has completed several projects throughout the Kansas City District of similar nature including at RT Z at Route TT in Lafayette County, south of Bates City in 2017. The Traffic and Safety Department identified this intersection as one that would benefit from improvements.

What impact will this have on traffic?

This project will take one full summer to complete and will include utility work, contouring and excavation. Crews will CLOSE the route during construction and detour traffic on state routes  BB or D. Click here to see the detour route mapLocal access will be maintained for property owners.

MoDOT will work directly with the public works department and the school district to mitigate impacts to school bus traffic.

What is the time line and cost for this project?

Work will begin Spring 2020 and be completed by Winter 2020. This project is estimated at $1 million and is paid through federal transportation funds as well as some state transportation funds.
