Online Comment Period Regarding MO Rt. D and U.S. Rt. 69 in Clay Co., NOW-Oct. 23

Leave your comments and questions now until 4 pm on Thursday, October 23

CLAY COUNTY – The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) is seeking public comment input regarding Route D and U.S. Route 69 Intersection Improvements in Clay County | Missouri Department of Transportation. The comment period opened at 4 pm on Thursday, October 9. The public is invited to leave questions and comments on the project webpage. A second public meeting on the project was held on Thursday, Oct. 9 at the Lawson City Hall in Lawson, MO.

Increased traffic volumes on Route D and US 69, especially during peak periods, are driving the need to improve traffic flow through this intersection. Improving sight distance on US 69, just south of the intersection, is also necessary. After reviewing safety data, public feedback, and access to local businesses, a roundabout is the preferred option for this location.

Construction is tentatively scheduled to start in the summer of 2027, with a completion goal of one year.

Traffic control during construction has not been finalized. Constructing the roundabout while allowing traffic will greatly increase the schedule and costs and may not be possible due to roadway profile adjustments. A full closure of the intersection could speed up construction by 6 to 8 months.

Roundabouts enhance safety by slowing traffic and eliminating left turn movements, which result in fewer severe and fatal collisions. They also provide more flexibility for providing access. After reviewing safety, public feedback, access to local businesses, and project scale, a roundabout is the preferred option.
