JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – U.S. Route 54 in Jefferson City and all associated ramps are now open. Bridge rehabilitation work over Business Route 50 (Missouri Boulevard) wrapped up Wednesday evening, Sept. 3 –ahead of schedule – allowing traffic patterns to return to normal.
Construction crews working with the Missouri Department of Transportation narrowed U.S. Route 54 over Missouri Boulevard to one lane in each direction on July 14. The lane closures were necessary to replace the joint seals, apply a protective coating to the substructure, and repair and overlay the bridge deck. While this rehabilitation work was originally expected to continue into October, the contractor was able to complete the work several weeks early.
A portion of U.S. Route 54 in Jefferson City has been narrowed to one lane in each direction since early May, when a multi-bridge rehabilitation project began. With the rehabilitation work on seven bridges now complete, MoDOT does not anticipate additional traffic impacts on U.S. Route 54 in Jefferson City for this project.
However, work continues at two locations south of Jefferson City:
- U.S. Route 54 is narrowed to one lane in a head-to-head configuration at the Neighorn Branch. Expected to continue into early November.
- Westbound U.S. Route 54 is narrowed to one lane at the Moreau River Drainage. Expected to continue into early October.
