Westbound U.S. Route 54 to narrow for additional bridge project south of Jefferson City

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Rehabilitation work on the westbound U.S. Route 54 bridge over the Moreau River Drainage, south of Jefferson City, will begin next week. The bridge will remain open, but westbound traffic will narrow to one lane and motorists should expect delays during peak traffic hours.

Construction crews working with the Missouri Department of Transportation anticipate starting the around-the-clock lane closure the morning of Aug. 11. An 11-foot width restriction and reduced speeds will be in place. Eastbound traffic will not be impacted. Work is expected through early-October.

Access to and from westbound U.S. Route 54 at Twin Bridges Road will remain open, but there will be no access to or from eastbound U.S. Route 54 at this location, as the existing median crossover will be closed.

All work is weather permitting and schedules are subject to change.

This work is part of a multi-bridge project that includes deck repairs and overlays for 11 bridges in Jefferson City. The Moreau River Drainage bridge is the final bridge along U.S. Route 54 as part of the project. More information about the multi-bridge project is available here: https://www.modot.org/projects/us-route-50-and-us-route-54-bridge-rehabilitations-cole-county
