Input sought on realigning U.S. Route 63 in Osage County

In-person public hearing Aug. 21

 

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo The current U.S. Route 63 corridor from south of U.S. Route 50 to the Maries River has a history of fatal and serious injury crashes. The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) is exploring a new realignment for U.S. Route 63 in northern Osage County and seeking community input on the improvements. 

This project will realign U.S. Route 63 from south of U.S. Route 50 to the Maries River in order to address safety concerns and improve the flow of traffic. In the past 10 years, this corridor has seen 190 crashes that have resulted in seven fatalities, 12 serious injuries, and 80 minor injuries.  

Public input is essential and by commenting, questioning, and providing insight during the in-person informal hearing and the four-week comment period, the community can help guide the project design and construction process. 

The open-house style hearing is scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 21, 2025, at the Westphalia Knights of Columbus, located at 819 Highway 63 in Westphalia. Attendees may come and go as they please at any time from 4:30 to 6 p.m., as there will be no formal presentation. The project team will be on hand to answer questions, provide information, and receive input about the projectThe meeting exhibits will also be made available online. 

In addition to the public hearing, there will be a four-week comment period running Aug. 6 – Sept. 4, 2025. Input can be submitted online through a form on the project webpage, emailed to CDCR@modot.mo.gov, or mailed to U.S. Route 63 realignment in Westphalia, c/o MoDOT, 1511 Missouri Boulevard, Jefferson City, MO, 65102. All comments must be received or postmarked by Sept. 4, 2025.
