Traffic switch on U.S. Route 54 over Missouri Boulevard set for next week

Additional ramp to close for next phase of work

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Rehabilitation work on U.S. Route 54 over Business Route 50 (Missouri Boulevard) is nearing the half-way mark and the next phase of work is set to begin next week. This will bring changes to the work zone with additional impacts to motorists.

The evening of Aug. 5, construction crews working with the Missouri Department of Transportation plan to begin working on the driving (right) lane. This will shift east and westbound traffic on to their respective passing (left) lanes. During this phase of the project, for the safety of motorists and after consulting with our first responder partners, three ramps will be closed:

  • Westbound U.S. Route 54 off-ramp to Missouri Boulevard. (NEW during this phase.)
  • Eastbound U.S. Route 50 off-ramp to westbound U.S. Route 54. (Closed during Phase 1.)
  • Missouri Boulevard on-ramp to eastbound U.S. Route 54. (Closed during Phase 1.)

As with the first phase, traffic delays on U.S. Route 54 could stretch for several miles at peak daily commute times and weekend travels. All work is weather permitting and schedules are subject to change.

During this second phase, the 11-foot width restriction and speed reductions will remain in place. These impacts are expected through early-October. While most vehicles – including boats and RVs – are 8-feet, 6-inches, or narrower, anything wider than the legal width of 8-foot-6-inches requires an over-dimension permit from MoDOT’s Motor Carrier Services.

All work is weather permitting and schedules are subject to change.
