REMINDER: U.S. Route 54 over Missouri Boulevard rehabilitation work to begin Monday night

Both lanes of U.S. Route 54 restored over Linden Drive and Stadium Boulevard at same time

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – For the safety of the construction workers and the traveling public, U.S. Route 54 over Linden Drive and Stadium Boulevard will remain narrowed to one lane each direction through late Monday. This will allow crews to safely place traffic control devices to narrow U.S. Route 54 over Missouri Boulevard to one lane on Monday night for the next bridge work in this multi-bridge project.

On May 5, construction crews working with the Missouri Department of Transportation, narrowed U.S. Route 54 to one lane in each direction in a head-to-head configuration for rehabilitation work over Linden Drive and Stadium Boulevard. That work is ahead of schedule and both bridges, along with their associated ramp closures, are expected to fully reopen to normal traffic patterns Monday night, July 14.

That same evening, traffic on U.S. Route 54 over Missouri Boulevard will narrow to one lane in each direction. Rehabilitation work will be completed on east and westbound simultaneously with work taking place on one half of each bridge. For the first phase of work, the left (passing) lane will be closed, while the right (driving) lane will remain open. For the safety of motorists and after consulting with our first responder partners, two ramps will be closed during this phase:

  • Eastbound U.S. Route 50 off-ramp to westbound U.S. Route 54.
  • Missouri Boulevard on-ramp to eastbound U.S. Route 54.

As with the previous bridge work, traffic delays on U.S. Route 54 could stretch for several miles at peak daily commute times and weekend travels. An 11-foot width restriction and reduced speeds will be in place. These impacts are expected through early September. While most vehicles – including boats and RVs – are 8-feet, 6-inches, or narrower, anything wider than the legal width of 8-foot-6-inches requires an over-dimension permit from MoDOT’s Motor Carrier Services.

All work is weather permitting and schedules are subject to change.
