RESCHEDULED: U.S. Route 54 bridge work next phase now starting June 4

Traffic shift rescheduled due to weather

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Due to the weather forecast for this evening, the traffic shift originally planned for tonight on U.S. Route 54 in Jefferson City is postponed to tomorrow.

Weather permitting, the evening of June 4, construction crews working with the Missouri Department of Transportation plan to shift traffic in order to work on the right lanes of the Stadium Boulevard overpass bridges and the eastbound Linden Drive overpass bridge. The switch will take place over several days and motorists are asked to slow down, use extra caution, and have patience when travelling through the work zone.

During this phase of the project, for the safety of motorists and after consulting with our first responder partners, four ramps will be closed:

  • Eastbound U.S. Route 54 off-ramp to Madison Street. (NEW during this phase.)
  • Westbound U.S. Route 54 off-ramp to Stadium Boulevard. (NEW during this phase.)
  • Madison Street on-ramp to westbound U.S. Route 54. (Closed during Phase 1.)
  • Christy Drive on-ramp to eastbound U.S. Route 54. (Closed during Phase 1.)

All work is weather permitting and schedules are subject to change.

As with the first phase, traffic delays on U.S. Route 54 could stretch for several miles at peak daily commute times and weekend travels. The 11-foot width restriction and speed reductions as low as 35 mph will remain in place. These impacts are expected through mid-October, though incentives have been included in the contract for an earlier completion. While most vehicles – including boats and RVs – are 8-feet, 6-inches, or narrower, anything wider than the legal width of 8-foot-6-inches requires an over-dimension permit from MoDOT’s Motor Carrier Services.

MoDOT asks all motorists to work with us by buckling up, putting your phone down, obeying all traffic signs, and slowing down and moving over in work zones.
