ST. CHARLES COUNTY – The Missouri Department of Transportation will shift two westbound Interstate 64 lanes at the Boone Bridge over the Missouri River to the eastbound bridge Friday, May 9. All work is weather permitting.
Starting Friday, May 9 at 7 p.m., crews will begin shifting two westbound I-64 lanes to the eastbound Boone Bridge. One westbound lane will remain open on the westbound bridge. Existing eastbound I-64 lanes between Research Park Circle and Spirit of St. Louis Boulevard have been shifted to the right to accommodate the westbound lanes. All lanes on the eastbound bridge will be narrowed to 11-foot lanes.
This lane shift will create a large enough work area to allow MoDOT's contractor to begin repainting of the westbound truss. MoDOT will maintain three through lanes on each direction of I-64, but two of the westbound lanes will be temporarily shifted to the eastbound bridge. A barrier wall will separate both directions of traffic.
To allow the contractor adequate space to work safely, the outside (auxiliary lanes) in both directions will be closed within the work zone limits.
Drivers can expect a work zone speed limit of 50 mph, narrowed, and shifted lanes through the limits of the work zone. The work zone is anticipated to lead to some backups during peak commuting times, so motorists are encouraged to avoid those times if possible.
Drivers can use the Route 364 Veterans Memorial Bridge to cross between St. Louis and St. Charles counties as an alternate route.
