HANNIBAL – Individuals are invited to a public informational meeting that will share information about the future interchange improvement project on U.S. Route 63, over U.S. Route 36 in Macon. The public meeting is planned for Monday, May 5, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Comfort Inn & Suites Macon at 1821 N. Missouri Street in Macon, Missouri.
Details about the project, including a project schedule, will be shared at the meeting through displays and discussions with Missouri Department of Transportation engineers. The meeting is open-house style, so there will be no formal presentation; attendees can attend anytime between 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.
The project is scheduled to be under contract this Fall and will include bridge rehabilitation, off-ramp realignments and turn lane improvements at the ramp terminals, traffic signal and lighting upgrades at the U.S. 63 and Bus. 36 intersections, and safety improvements at Kellogg Avenue median crossover.
The project will be constructed within the current right-of-way boundaries with no additional right of way needed. As the project progresses, various traffic impacts will be in place around the work zone, including temporary lane reductions and closures. “We encourage individuals to come and learn about this important project and ask questions,” said MoDOT Project Manager Keith Killen. He said, “The existing interchange site will undergo bridge rehabilitation, signal, lighting and safety upgrades to improve traffic flow through the U.S. 63/36 interchange in Macon.”
For those unable to attend the meeting in person, please visit the project website at https://www.modot.org/projects/us-route-63-interchange-improvements-over-us-route-36-macon-county to learn more or leave a comment. All displays and information provided at the public meeting will be posted on the project web page immediately following the meeting. MoDOT is interested in gathering feedback from the public regarding the project and other general comments. The online comment period will be open from May 5-19. “We also encourage anyone interested to sign up for emails about the project at this link: Customer Service Signon (mo.gov),” Killen added.
