TRAFFIC ALERT: New Traffic Pattern Coming to Route HH in Carthage Beginning Week of July 8

What: Access to Dr. Russell Smith Way from Jasper County Route HH (Fir Road) traffic will shift to the Route HH-to-southbound-I-49 ramp in Carthage

When: Beginning week of July 8 and remaining in this pattern for most of the rest of the intersection improvement project, sometime in early 2025

Traffic Impacts:

  • Russell Smith Way will be CLOSED at Route HH
  • Drivers will access Dr. Russell Smith Way via a temporary access road on the Route HH-to-southbound -I-49 ramp
  • Traffic will remain in this pattern for most of the rest of the intersection improvement project, sometime in early 2025
  • Drivers should expect slowed traffic, traffic delays
  • Crews and large equipment near traffic
  • Signs and message boards will alert drivers approaching the work zone
  • Drivers should consider alternate routes during the project
  • Check MoDOT’s Traveler Information Map for road closings/traffic impacts

Weather and/or construction delays could alter the work schedule.

This work is part of a project to build a roundabout at Route HH (Fir Road) and Dr. Russell Smith Way. Contractor crews are converting the intersection just west of I-49 into a single-lane roundabout.

The project is a 50/50 cost-share with the City of Carthage.
