Cook Road Bridge in St. Joseph to close for rehabilitation beginning June 17

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – The Cook Road Bridge rehabilitation over Interstate 29 in St. Joseph is scheduled to begin Monday, June 17. Clarkson Construction Company, working with the Missouri Department of Transportation, will close the roadway from 38th Street to just east of the bridge at the driveway entrance to Renovations Church. Access to/from Chris Hessler Road will be closed. Motorists will need to seek an alternate route during the closure.

The project will widen the bridge and replace it’s driving surface. The City of St. Joseph has also allocated funds to add a pedestrian sidewalk to the south side of the bridge which will include decorative fencing and concrete sides.  The project is anticipated to be complete by October 2024.

During construction, I-29 will be closed both directions, during three separate operations of the rehabilitation (bridge demolition, placement of girders and girder painting). Motorists will be detoured on I-229 during this time. Specific dates, times and detour information will be provided when available.

In addition, overnight lane closures on I-29 below the bridge may occur between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. A 12-foot width restriction will be in place.
