Route A in Cape Girardeau County Closed for Bridge Replacement

Bootheel Bridge Bundle Construction Continues

SIKESTON - Route A in Cape Girardeau County will be closed as contractor crews replace the bridge over Whitewater River. 

This section of roadway is located between County Road 253 and Walnut Street in Whitewater, Missouri. 

Weather permitting, work will begin Monday, June 5 with completion anticipated Wednesday, Nov. 1 with work taking place from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. 

This bridge is included in Gov. Mike Parson’s $351 million Focus on Bridges program, which will repair or replace 250 bridges across the state. 

The bridge is included in the Missouri Department of Transportation’s Bootheel Bridge Bundle design-build project, which will improve 17 bridges throughout Southeast Missouri. Completion of the Bootheel Bridge Bundle design-build project is anticipated on or before Dec. 31, 2023. The work zone will be marked with signs. Motorists are urged to use extreme caution while traveling near the area.
