Barrier work will require closures in southeast corner of downtown loop on April 22

 

JACKSON COUNTY – Maintenance crews with the Missouri Department of Transportation will be completing concrete barrier work that will require various lane and ramp closures along the southeast corner of the downtown loop beginning at 3 a.m. until approximately noon on Saturday, April 22. This will have impacts on traffic and is in addition to the Buck O’Neil Bridge work scheduled for the northern side of the downtown loop this weekend. There will be no signed detours, motorists are advised to plan ahead, seek alternate routes, and be prepared for delays. All work is weather permitting.

Barrier Work: Saturday, April 22, beginning at 3 a.m. until Noon

  • Crews will CLOSE the ramp from southbound I-35 to eastbound I-70.
  • Crews will CLOSE the shoulder of westbound I-70 to westbound I-670.
    • Motorists should note that this is currently the suggested detour route for another closure in the area. There could be delays in the area.
  • Crews will CLOSE the ramp from 14th Street to eastbound I-70.
  • Crews will CLOSE the left lane of eastbound I-670 to eastbound I-70.

 As a reminder, crews with the Buck O’Neil Bridge also have closures within the downtown loop and will be CLOSING the northern side of the downtown loop this weekend between 10 p.m. on Friday, April 21, and 5 a.m. on Monday, April 24. The closures involved with that work are as follows:

As of Tuesday, April 18, the following ramps are CLOSED long-term:

  • The ramp from Beardsley Road to 6th Street is closed until approximately June 2023 for bridge work.
  • The ramp from eastbound I-70 to 6th Street is closed until approximately June 2023 for bridge work.
  • The ramp from 5th Street to southbound I-35 is closed until approximately November 2023 for bridge work.
  • The ramp from westbound I-70 to southbound I-35 is closed until approximately November 2023 for bridge work.

Buck O’Neil Bridge Downtown Loop Closures: Friday, April 21 – Monday, April 24

  • Beginning at 10 p.m., crews will CLOSE eastbound I-70 at southbound I-35 until approximately 5 a.m. on Monday, April 24.
    • Motorists will be routed to eastbound I-670.
  • Beginning at 10 p.m., crews will CLOSE westbound I-70 at northbound I-35 until approximately 5 a.m. on Monday, April 24
    • Motorists should use westbound I-670 during this time.
  • Beginning at 10 p.m., crews will CLOSE southbound I-35 at westbound I-70 until approximately 5 a.m. on Monday, April 24.
    • Motorists should use westbound I-670 via eastbound I-70 during this time.
  • Beginning at 10 p.m., crews will CLOSE northbound I-35 at eastbound I-670 until approximately 5 a.m. on Monday, April 24.
    • Motorists will be routed to eastbound I-670.
  • This work will include the following ramp closures beginning at 10 p.m. on Friday, April 21, until approximately 5 a.m. on Monday, April 24:
    • The ramp from Beardsley Road to westbound I-70 will be closed.
    • The ramp from 5th Street to westbound I-70 will be closed.
    • The ramp from 5th Street to southbound I-35 will be closed. 
    • The ramp from Independence Ave. to westbound I-70 will be closed.
    • The ramp from MO Route 9 to westbound I-70 will be closed.
    • The E. Independence Ave/Troost ramp to westbound I-70 will be closed.
    • The ramp from 12th Street to northbound I-35 will be closed.

Motorists are reminded to slow down and pay attention while driving in work zones. Not all work zones look alike. Work zones can be moving operations, such as striping, patching or mowing. They can also be short term, temporary lane closures to make quick repairs or remove debris from the roadway.
