Various long-term closures scheduled as part of Buck O'Neil Bridge construction

 

JACKSON AND CLAY COUNTIES – Crews with the Buck O’Neil Bridge project will make the following traffic pattern changes beginning on Monday, April 10. Some of this work will have major traffic impacts as it will close various ramps for an extended period of time. All work is weather permitting.

Monday, April 10

  • Beginning at 6 a.m., crews will CLOSE the ramp from Harlem Circle to northbound U.S. 169 for approximately one week for bridge work.

Monday, April 17

  • MAJOR IMPACT: Beginning at approximately 6 a.m., crews will CLOSE the ramp from Beardsley Road to 6th Street until approximately June 2023 for bridge work.
  • MAJOR IMPACT: Beginning at approximately 6 a.m., crews will CLOSE the ramp from eastbound I-70 to 6th Street until approximately June 2023 for bridge work.
  • Beginning at approximately 9 a.m., crews will CLOSE the right lane of westbound I-70 at Broadway Blvd. until approximately 3:30 that afternoon.

Tuesday, April 18

  • MAJOR IMPACT: Beginning at approximately 6 a.m., crews will CLOSE the ramp form 5th Street to southbound I-35 until approximately November 2023.
  • MAJOR IMPACT: Beginning at approximately 6 a.m., crews will CLOSE the ramp from westbound I-70 to southbound I-35 until approximately November 2023.
  • Beginning at approximately 6 a.m., crews will CLOSE the left lane of both eastbound and westbound I-70 at Broadway Blvd. until approximately 3:30 p.m. that afternoon.

The current Buck O’Neil Memorial Bridge is a triple arch bridge carrying U.S. Route 169 over the Missouri River, and serves as a key regional connection between downtown Kansas City and communities north of the river. While safe, the bridge is nearing the end of its projected service life.
