PLATTE COUNTY – Crews will be replacing the Interstate 29 twin bridges over 72nd Street beginning this weekend. Traffic control preparation for this work will require the following traffic changes beginning on Friday, March 10. Motorists are advised to plan ahead, leave early, and consider alternate routes if necessary as there could be delays in the area. All work is weather permitting.
- Beginning at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 10, crews will CLOSE the two outside lanes of southbound I-29 from just north of 72nd Street to just south of interchange in order to set up concrete barrier. One lane of traffic will remain open until barrier work is completed.
- Beginning on Saturday, March 11, through approximately late April, crews will have one lane of I-29 CLOSED in each direction at this location. Motorists should note that all lanes of I-29 and 72nd Street will be open for the NFL Draft occurring April 27 through April 29, 2023.
The I-29 twin bridges over 72nd Street carry six lanes of traffic through Kansas City and are nearing the end of their service lives necessitating the replacement. The project is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2023. For more information about this project, visit the project webpage.
Motorists are reminded to slow down and pay attention while driving in work zones. Not all work zones look alike. Work zones can be moving operations, such as striping, patching or mowing. They can also be short term, temporary lane closures to make quick repairs or remove debris from the roadway.
