MoDOT: Two (2) Future Intersection Improvement Projects at I-44 and Missouri Route 266

Near Springfield and Republic Focus of March 7 Public Hearing

Springfield/Republic, Greene County – The public is invited to a public hearing to discuss two (2) proposed projects to improve the intersection of Route MM and Interstate 44, as well as intersection improvements on Route AB and Route B at Missouri Route 266 in Greene County, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.

The public hearing will be held on Tuesday, March 7, 2023, between the hours of 4:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m., at the Springfield Livestock Marketing Center, 6821 West Independence Dr. #5914, Springfield. An open-house format will be used, and persons may discuss the project and offer comments at any time between the prescribed hours.

Anyone unable to attend the in-person hearing can view the same exhibits and leave comments from March 7-21, 2023, at an online public hearing available at www.modot.org/southwest. Those unable to access the online meeting, are encouraged to contact MoDOT’s Southwest District Office at 417.895.7600 and accommodations will be made to share the information and gather feedback.

The presently contemplated improvements are as follows: The current diamond interchange at Route MM/B intersection with Interstate 44 will include signalization at the eastbound and westbound ramps. As funding becomes available, the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) plans to replace the current diamond interchange configuration with a double roundabout interchange that interconnects with the north outer road (West Independence Drive) to provide for travelers' safe and efficient movements through the area. In the interim, MoDOT plans to acquire right-of-way now as part of this effort to achieve the new double roundabout interchange. In addition to the interchange improvements, two (2) roundabouts are proposed to the north that interconnects Route B and Route AB at Route 266.

Installation of the traffic signals at I-44 and Route MM/B will take place Summer 2024, with an estimated total project cost of $1.2 million. Construction of the new I-44 interchange at Route MM/B will take place when funding becomes available, with an estimated total project cost of $11.8 million.

Construction of the two (2) roundabouts on Route 266 at Route AB and B will take place Summer 2024, with an estimated total project cost of $4.2 million.
