Now open: Clinton County Route 116

Route 116 and U.S. Route 69 intersection improvement project moves to Phase 3

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Three legs of the first roundabout in Northwest Missouri are now open, ahead of schedule. Crews from Amino Brothers Co. Inc of Kansas City, working with the Missouri Department of Transportation, reopened Clinton County Route 116 in both directions, as well as U.S. Route 69 north of the Route 116 intersection. Crews will now move into Phase 3 of the intersection improvement project which includes constructing the south leg of the roundabout and removing the bypass.

U.S. Route 69 south of the intersection will remain closed from just north of 251st Street to Route 116 for the duration of the project. Crews anticipate being completed with all on-roadway work by the end of September. Access to 251st Street will continue to remain open.

When complete, the roundabout is expected to increase safety and reduce fatal and disabling crashes at the intersection. Roundabouts reduce the number of impact points, eliminate the impact points that result in t-bone crashes, and force traffic to slow down while merging at gentler angles. All these greatly reduce the possibility and severity of crashes.
