JACKSON COUNTY– As part of the bridge replacement project at U.S. 50 over Chipman Rd., crews will be shifting U.S. 50 traffic from the Chipman Rd. on and off ramps to the new U.S. 50 bridges beginning on Friday, Aug. 12. Motorists should note that this is just the opening of the new U.S. 50 bridges and that Chipman Rd. between Murray Rd. and Blue Parkway will remain CLOSED until later this summer 2022 at project completion. Motorists will NOT be able to make left turns onto Chipman Rd. from the U.S. 50 off ramps. However, right turns onto Chipman Rd. will still be permitted.
- Beginning at approximately 6 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 12, crews will CLOSE the ramp from eastbound Interstate 470 to eastbound U.S. 50 in order to safely shift traffic back onto U.S. 50.
- During this time, there will be rolling slowdowns in the area that will allow crews to complete striping work for the new configuration.
- Once work in the eastbound direction is completed the eastbound ramp will re-open and crews will move to the westbound side.
- Crews anticipate that this work will be completed by approximately 6 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 12
- All work is weather permitting.
The original bridges, built in 1975, had reached the end of their service life and needed replaced. In addition to the new bridges, sidewalks will be provided on both sides of Chipman Rd. through the interchange providing new critical connections for pedestrians. Once the bridges are complete, the project will move into Phase 3 will include roadway resurfacing and ADA improvements on Chipman Rd. This bridge is included in Gov. Mike Parson’s $351 million Focus on Bridges Program, which will repair or replace 250 bridges across the state. For full details, visit our project webpage.
For potential impacts to traffic, please review KC Scout cameras at http://www.kcscout.net or consult our real-time traffic partner, WAZE. Motorists are reminded to slow down and pay attention while driving in work zones. Not all work zones look alike. Work zones can be moving operations, such as striping, patching or mowing. They can also be short term, temporary lane closures to make quick repairs or remove debris from the roadway.
