Public input needed for Holt County bridge replacement project

Route B over Hickory Creek - public comment period now open

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Transportation is seeking public input regarding a bridge replacement project on Holt County Route B at the bridge over Hickory Creek. The project, currently in the design stage, would replace the 83-year-old timber pile bridge which is in poor condition.

As part of the project, the grade of the bridge will be raised and roadway near the bridge will be corrected to provide for better sight distance. In order to make these improvements, provide safe slopes, and maintain a utility corridor, additional right of way will be required. MoDOT will begin to reach out to affected property owners soon.

This project is currently scheduled to go out for contractor bids as part of MoDOT’s February 2023 letting with construction expected during the 2023 construction season. The road will be closed to all traffic during the closure. At this time, a signed detour is not planned. Motorists will need to seek an alternate route during the closure.
