About the Project:

Updated 8/20/2022

MoDOT is replacing the bridge over Hickory Creek on Holt County Route B. The bridge is listed in poor condition and has reached the end of its lifespan. The bridge is located just south of County Road 225 and the Nodaway Valley Conservation Area is immediately to the east. The project is currently scheduled for the February 2023 contractor letting with construction expected to begin in spring 2023. During the bridge replacement, Route B will close to all traffic.

Potential impacts to the Nodaway Valley Conservation Area include:

  • acquisition of 0.40 acres of right of way
  • closure of the entrance to primitive camping area at Road 225 for up to 50 days.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why is MoDOT closing the road during construction?

A: MoDOT strives to be a good steward of taxpayer money. By closing the roadway, the contractor will be able to work more efficiently within a shorter construction period, saving taxpayer dollars and reducing the time period construction will affect motorists.

Q: What is the detour during the bridge closure?

A: At this time, a signed detour is not planned. Motorists will need to seek an alternate route.

Q: Will MoDOT have to purchase any right of way?

A: Yes. MoDOT's Right of Way staff will begin contacting property owners in the near future for any necessary right of way needed for the project.

Q: How can I share my opinions about the project or ask further questions?
