Where: I-44 at Missouri Route 174 (Exit 49) in Lawrence County east of Mt. Vernon
When: 7 p.m.-7 a.m., Monday through Friday, June 13-17, June 20-24 & June 27-July 1
What: Contractor crews removing superstructure of current Route 174 bridge over I-44 in preparation for rehabilitating the bridge
Traffic Impact:
- During week of June 13:
- All east- and westbound I-44 lanes CLOSED at night while crews are working on bridge June 13-17
- All east- and westbound I-44 lanes OPEN during daytime hours June 13-17
- I-44 traffic will be diverted using ramps at Exit 49
- During weeks of June 20 & June 27:
- I-44 will be reduced to one lane in each direction 7 p.m.-7 a.m., Monday-Friday for work over the interstate including setting girders
- Speed limit reduced to 40 mph
- All I-44 lanes OPEN during daytime hours
- Drivers wishing to travel along Route 174 will be directed along a signed detour:
- Westbound Route 174 detoured east along I-44 to Lawrence County Route Z/O (Exit 58) near Halltown, then westbound on I-44 to westbound Route 174
- Eastbound Route 174 detoured west along I-44 to Missouri Route 39 (Exit 46) near Mt. Vernon, then eastbound on I-44 to Route 174
- Signs and message boards will alert drivers approaching the work zone
- Drivers encouraged to find alternate routes around the work zone
- Check MoDOT’s Traveler Information Map for road closings/traffic impacts
Weather and/or construction delays could alter the work schedule.
This work is part of a project to replace or rehabilitate 25 bridges withing 15 miles of I-44 across the Southwest District.
Of the 25 bridges in the I-44 Corridor Bridge Bundle project, seven (7) are mainline I-44 bridges, five (5) are I-44 overpass bridges and the remaining bridges are on adjacent routes over various features. Sixteen (16) bridges will be replaced and nine (9) bridges will receive major rehabilitation work.
