REMINDER: U.S. Route 69 in Clinton County to close for intersection improvement project

Roundabout construction to begin soon at U.S. Route 69 and Route 116 intersection

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Transportation reminds motorists of an intersection improvement project beginning next week at U.S. Route 69 and Route 116 in Clinton County. Amino Brothers Co., Inc. of Kansas City, working with MoDOT, will construct a roundabout at this intersection, located just east of Interstate 35. To complete construction, U.S. Route 69 south of Route 116 will close from April 12 through Aug. 19, the duration of the project. The closure will extend from just north of 251st Street to Route 116. Access to 251st Street will remain open.

The project will be built in three phases, during the 2022 construction season:

  1. Bypass construction – scheduled for April 12 through May 3
  2. Roundabout construction – scheduled for May 3 through July 11
  3. South leg construction and bypass removal – scheduled for July 12 through Aug. 19

To view maps and learn about traffic impacts during each phase, visit the project’s webpage at https://www.modot.org/clinton-county-us-route-69-and-route-116-intersection-improvement-project. While there, sign up for project-specific updates directly to your inbox.

When complete, the roundabout is expected to increase the safety and reduce fatal and disabling crashes at the intersection. Roundabouts reduce the number of impact points, eliminate the impact points that result in t-bone crashes, and force traffic to slow down while merging at gentler angles. All these greatly reduce the possibility and severity of crashes.
