U.S. 50 over Chipman Rd. bridge replacement beginning in Spring 2022

JACKSON COUNTY – MoDOT plans to replace the U.S. 50 bridges over Chipman Rd. in Lee’s Summit beginning in mid-March 2022. More details and specific dates will be announced soon. These bridges have reached the end of their service life and must be replaced. In addition to the new bridges, sidewalks will be provided on both sides of Chipman Rd. through the interchange providing new critical connections for pedestrians. All work is weather permitting.

This project will be completed in three phases:

  • Phase 1 will improve the on and off ramps from U.S. 50 to Chipman Rd. so that they can withstand traffic during construction. During this time, all four on and off ramps at Chipman Rd. will be closed.
  • Phase 2 will re-construct the bridges and involve a total closure of Chipman Rd. between Blue Parkway and Murray Rd. for approximately five months.
  • Phase 3 will include roadway resurfacing and ADA improvements on Chipman Rd.

Motorists using U.S. 50 may experience delays as U.S. 50 traffic will be routed around the bridge work using the existing on and off ramps at Chipman Rd.

Motorists along Chipman Rd. will be experience significant impacts during construction. Chipman Rd. will be CLOSED during Phase 2 in order to allow the bridges to be constructed in the shortest time possible. Detours will be provided to guide motorists during construction.

This bridge is included in Gov. Mike Parson’s $351 million Focus on Bridges Program, which will repair or replace 250 bridges across the state. For full details, visit our project webpage.

For potential impacts to traffic, please review KC Scout cameras at http://www.kcscout.net or consult our real-time traffic partner, WAZE. Motorists are reminded to slow down and pay attention while driving in work zones. Not all work zones look alike. Work zones can be moving operations, such as striping, patching or mowing. They can also be short term, temporary lane closures to make quick repairs or remove debris from the roadway.
