ENDS TODAY: MoDOT hosting online public meeting for U.S. 24 safety improvement project until June 30

JACKSON COUNTY – Today is the last day to leave comments on MoDOT Kansas City’s online public information meeting regarding an upcoming safety improvement project along U.S. 24 between River Blvd. and Sterling Ave. Project plans, materials, and a place to provide comments and ask questions are all available on the project webpage until 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, June 30. No formal presentations will be made.

The safety improvements include a 5-lane typical section with curb and gutter, enclosed drainage storm sewers, raised concrete islands, traffic signal improvements, and signing and pavement marking improvements. A multi-use path and sidewalk is also proposed. Access to businesses along the corridor will also be improved. Construction is currently scheduled to begin in winter 2022/2023 with an anticipated completion in summer 2024. This project is funded through a partnership between the City of Independence and MoDOT. It currently is estimated at $5 million.
