MoDOT to host online public meeting for U.S. 24 safety improvement project beginning June 15

JACKSON COUNTY – MoDOT Kansas City will be hosting an online public information meeting regarding an upcoming safety improvement project along U.S. 24 between River Blvd. and Sterling Ave. Beginning on Tuesday, June 15 through Wednesday, June 30, project plans, materials, and a place to provide comments and ask questions will be available on the project webpage. No formal presentations will be made.

The safety improvements include a 5-lane typical section with curb and gutter, enclosed drainage storm sewers, raised concrete islands, traffic signal improvements, and signing and pavement marking improvements. A multi-use path and sidewalk is also proposed. Access to businesses along the corridor will also be improved. Construction is currently scheduled to begin in winter 2022/2023 with an anticipated completion in summer 2024. This project is funded through a partnership between the City of Independence and MoDOT. It currently is estimate at $5 million.
