St. Joseph, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Transportation is seeking public comments regarding a repair and resiliency project on a flood-damaged section of Atchison County U.S. Route 136. The project, currently in the design stage, would consist of resurfacing and added resiliency improvements along U.S. Route 136 from the Missouri River to Interstate 29 in Rock Port.
The resiliency improvements include regrading and armoring the current southern side slopes and re-establishing drainage ditches in an effort to minimize, or eliminate, the need to make significant repairs in the event of future flooding. In order to complete these improvements, MoDOT would need to acquire additional right of way along various sections of the roadway. Once the exact locations of needed right of way have been determined, MoDOT will reach out to affected property owners.
Construction is currently anticipated to begin in 2022. Impacts to traffic should be expected during this time. Detailed traffic management information will be provided prior to construction.
