COLUMBIA – Motorists in Columbia will see lane closures on two heavily traveled roadways in the coming week as part of a project to improve Missouri Department of Transportation traffic signal connectivity.
A contractor working for MoDOT is currently upgrading fiber lines that connect traffic signals on state routes across the city. The upgrade will create better connection between signals. This will allow for improved signal timing and traffic flow. It will also help MoDOT respond in a timelier manner to signal issues, allowing traffic engineers to troubleshoot, monitor traffic flow and make timing adjustments remotely in real time.
Crews are expected to work on Route 763 (Rangeline Street) at the bridge over Bear Creek, located south of Big Bear, on Monday, November 16. This work will require a lane closure on southbound Rangeline Street during daytime hours.
Crews will then work on Route 740 (Stadium Boulevard) at the bridge over Hinkson Creek, just west of Old Highway 63. Work is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, November 17 through Thursday, November 19. This work will require daily lane closures on eastbound Stadium Boulevard.
Signs will guide motorists through the work zones. Motorists are asked to slow down and watch for crews in these areas. MoDOT says they appreciate the patience of travelers while the work takes place.
The project is expected to be completed by the end of December.
