Editors: Information regarding the closure of the Katy Trail and Gov. Mike Parson’s $351 million Focus on Bridges program has been removed. There are no planned closures of the Katy Trail during this project. This project is not included in the Focus on Bridges program.
BOONVILLE – Information regarding a U.S. Route 40 bridge rehabilitation, which will impact use of the Katy Trail for a short time, is now available and MoDOT is inviting nearby residents and travelers to share their thoughts.
The Missouri Department of Transportation plans to rehabilitate the Boonville Missouri River Bridge next year. The existing bridge was built in 1995 and has reached a point of needing preventative maintenance. This preventative maintenance is necessary in order to get the maximum service life out of the bridge.
The project will be completed by a contractor for MoDOT and is scheduled to be opened to bids in late 2020. Construction is expected to take place in 2021.
While work is taking place, Route 40 will have various lane closures with a reduced speed limit, but will remain open to traffic. The Katy Trail will be closed for up to one week during the installation of guardrail on the north end of the Missouri River Bridge where the bike and pedestrian trail parallels Route 40. MoDOT will announce the closure when a timeline has been established and signs will be installed to alert trail users ahead of time.
Motorists and area residents may ask questions or provide feedback and comments on this project by visiting www.modot.org/Route40MissouriRiverBridge. The online public comment period is open through September 8.
