SIKESTON –The Missouri Department of Transportation plans to improve two bridges on Missouri Route 51 in Bollinger County. The Route 51 bridges are located over Castor River and Castor River Overflow, just north of Zalma, Missouri.
The public is invited to share their input on these upcoming projects through an online meeting available at https://www.modot.org/bootheel-bridge-bundle. Comments will be accepted until April 29.
The bridges are part of the Bootheel Bridge Bundle, which will repair or replace 15 bridges on MoDOT’s Southeast District asset management plan. One design-build team will be selected to design and construct the bridges.
The Route 51 bridge over Castor River is also included in Gov. Mike Parson’s $351 million Focus on Bridges program, which will repair or replace 250 bridges across the state.
The design-build team for the Bootheel Bridge Bundle is expected to be selected in August 2020, with construction beginning as early as summer 2020. Completion of the Bootheel Bridge Bundle project is anticipated by December 2023.
Public meetings will be held in summer 2020 to share more information about the upcoming improvements. Additional details regarding the timeline and traffic impacts will be released prior to the start of construction.
