MoDOT Public Notice

Route 160 in Ozark County

The Missouri Department of Transportation plans to improve Route 160 in Ozark County. The project involves widening approximately one mile of roadway, realigning two curves on Route 160, adding guardrails on the south side of Route 160, and the addition of paved shoulders outside of Tecumseh, Missouri. The purpose of this project is to improve the safety of Route 160.

Section 4(f)

Section 4(f) of the U.S. Department of Transportation Act of 1966 (49 USC 303), hereinafter referred to as "Section 4(f)", protects publicly owned parks, recreation areas, wildlife refuges, waterfowl refuges, and significant historic and archeological resources. Below are Section 4(f) properties identified by MoDOT.

Tecumseh Park Boat Ramp is a boat ramp access point to North Fork River and Lake Norfork and is located within MoDOT’s project area. As per MoDOT’s project plans, a permanent easement is needed for MoDOT to create a backslope for the proposed widening of Route 160 outside of Tecumseh, Missouri. The permanent easements would be located on a wooded and rocky hillside that is not being used for recreation purposes and does not affect boat ramp access. The entrance into the park will remain open during construction; however, access into the park might take longer than normal when MoDOT needs to configure US 160 into a one-lane highway for construction purposes. MoDOT may need to blast rock within the project location, and for driver safety, US 160 will need to close for short durations. The park entrance will remain open during all hours of road work, and access into the park will only be delayed due to traffic build up.

In compliance with Section 4(f) and its implementing regulations codified in 23 CFR Part 774, the FHWA in cooperation with MoDOT provides public notice of its proposal to make a Section 4(f) de minimis effect determination on Tecumseh Park, and provides the opportunity for public review and comment of this proposed determination.

Individuals and organizations wishing to comment on the project updates and/or regarding the de minimis impact to Tecumseh Park may submit their feedback to MoDOT’s Southeast District in the following ways:

Comments will be accepted through Wednesday, March 4, 2020.
