Route KK to Close Next Tuesday, September 3 for Safety Improvements

Closure north of Troy in Lincoln County

HANNIBAL – To begin work on the safety improvements at Route KK and U.S. Route 61 in Lincoln County just north of Troy, the Missouri Department of Transportation will close access to Route KK at U.S. 61 on Tuesday, September 3 at 6 a.m.  “During this closure, drivers who need to access Route KK at its south entrance will need to go to Old Highway 61,” explained MoDOT Area Engineer Erik Maninga.

The improvements being made are in conjunction with the work at the Cuivre River Bridge on U.S. 61.  “The Route KK intersection improvement includes an offset left turn lane on northbound U.S. 61, and an acceleration lane on southbound U.S. 61, which will make for safer travel in that area,” Maninga said, and noted it will take up to two weeks to complete this work.  “Much of the work is being done on the shoulders, but there will be lane closures at night,” he noted.

“These improvements can enhance safer travel, yet the best way to ensure the traveling public is safe is to ensure drivers are paying attention to their surroundings by eliminating distractions and are aware of oncoming traffic,” Maninga said.  One of the best defenses to staying safe in a crash, he added, is to ensure everyone in the vehicle is wearing a seat belt.
