JACKSON COUNTY– Due to the immense traffic volumes along Interstate 470 during the day, the Missouri Department of Transportation has decided to move the I-470 crossover build to a nighttime operation, leaving two lanes of traffic on I-470 open during peak daytime hours. This should not impact the construction schedule for the I-470 bridge rehabilitation work and motorists will still encounter two lanes of traffic along I-470 during the duration of the project. Starting today, Wednesday, Sept. 6, I-470 will be reduced to one lane over night from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. and will reopen to two lanes for morning rush hours. View High Drive on and off ramps will remain CLOSED.
This phase of the project will REDUCE Interstate 470 to two lanes in each direction from just east of the Cedar Creek Bridge to west of the Little Blue River Bridge near View High Drive through mid-November. During this time, westbound traffic will be shifted to the eastbound side of I-470. Crews will be making repairs on the bridges at Little Blue River, View High Drive, and Cedar Creek. On Friday, Sept. 8, when the traffic crossover is completed, there will be only two lanes of traffic with narrow shoulders each way on this portion of I-470 for the following 60 days while bridges are under construction. Commute times are expected to increase. We strongly urge motorists to plan ahead and find alternate routes if necessary.
This work is part of the extensive I-470 bridge rehabilitation work ranging from the Three Trails Crossing to I-70. This project WILL significantly impact traffic along I-470 until November 2018. All work is weather permitting.
Motorists are reminded to slow down and pay attention while driving in work zones. Not all work zones look alike. Work zones can be moving operations, such as striping, patching or mowing. They can also be short term, temporary lane closures to make quick repairs or remove debris from the roadway.
