UPDATES: The current phase of the project will  REDUCE Interstate 470 to two lanes in each direction from just east of the Cedar Creek Bridge to west of the Little Blue River Bridge near View High Drive through mid-November. During this time, westbound traffic will be shifted to the eastbound side of I-470. Crews will be making repairs on the bridges at Little Blue River, View High Drive, and Cedar CreekThere will be only two lanes of traffic with narrow shoulders each way on this portion of I-470 for the following 60 days while bridges are under construction. Commute times are expected to increase. We strongly urge motorists to plan ahead and find alternate routes if necessary.

What is this project?

MoDOT is repairing 15 bridges along I-470 from Blue Ridge Boulevard to the I-70 interchange in 2017 and 2018.

Why is MoDOT doing this project?

The age and condition of these bridges require extensive rehabilitation so they can continue to serve customers for decades to come. More than 60,000 drivers cross through this stretch of I-470 every day so keeping the interstate smooth and safe is paramount.

Some of these bridges were constructed in the 1960s and have passed their useful life. Rehabilitation will allow them to serve the public safely for another 15 to 20 years.

The complete list of bridges scheduled for work include:

  • Kansas City Southern Railroad Bridge over I-470
  • Blue Ridge Boulevard Bridge
  • James A. Reed Bridge
  • Little Blue River Bridge
  • View High Drive Bridge
  • Cedar Creek Rail Road Bride
  • Bowlin Road Bridge on northbound I-470
  • Lakewood Boulevard Bridge on southbound I-470
  • Little Blue River Bridge on both northound and southbound lanes
  • U.S. 40 Bridge on both northbound and southbound lanes
  • I-470 Bridge over I-70, both northbound and southbound lanes

How will this impact traffic during construction?

I-470 will remain open during construction but lanes WILL BE impacted and drivers will encounter delays during peak travel times.

In many cases these bridges will require closing two lanes to work on one side then switching traffic to complete the other. Some bridges will be completely closed.

Ramp closures will be required at the I-470 and View High Dr. interchange, and at the I-470 and I-70 interchange.

What is the timeline for this project?

This project was awarded to Phillips Hardy, Inc. and will begin construction in summer 2017. It will take two complete construction seasons to complete all bridges.
