LEE’S SUMMIT – The Missouri Department of Transportation plans to resume bridge rehabilitation work on Interstate 470 at Little Blue River, Cedar Creek, and View High Drive beginning at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 28. In the event of inclement weather late into the evening, the work may be rescheduled.
Crews will be shifting eastbound I-470 traffic to the westbound side of I-470 between Pryor Road and Blue Ridge Blvd. in order to continue rehabilitating the eastbound bridges along I-470. This traffic crossover will REDUCE I-470 to two lanes in each direction with narrow shoulders each way until late April. Commute times are expected to increase significantly. We strongly urge motorists to plan ahead and find alternate routes if necessary.
Here’s what motorists can expect:
- Crews will CLOSE the two outside lanes of westbound I-470 beginning at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 28, until 5 a.m. the following morning for striping removal work.
- Crews will open all westbound I-470 lanes by morning rush hour on Thursday, Mar. 1.
- Crews will CLOSE the two outside lanes of westbound I-470 beginning at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Mar. 1, until 5 a.m. the following morning for pavement marking work.
- Crews will open the two outside lanes on westbound I-470 by morning rush hour on Friday, Mar. 2.
- Crews will CLOSE the westbound on ramp from View High Drive onto I-470 for the duration of the bridge rehabilitation beginning at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Mar. 1.
- Crews will REDUCE westbound I-470 to ONE LANE for barrier wall installation and striping work beginning at 8 p.m. on Friday, Mar. 2.
- Throughout the weekend of Mar. 2, there is the possibility of ONLY ONE LANE being open in each direction along this stretch of I-470 while the traffic cross over is constructed.
- Crews will CLOSE all ramps on View High Drive with the exception of the westbound I-470 off ramp for the duration of the project on Saturday, Mar 3.
- Beginning at 5 a.m. on Monday, Mar. 5, crews will have I-470 reduced to two lanes in each direction and shifted over the westbound side of I-470 until approximately late April.
This work is part of the extensive I-470 bridge rehabilitation project ranging from the Three Trails Crossing to I-70. This project will SIGNIFICANTLY impact traffic along I-470 until November 2018. All work is weather permitting.
Motorists are reminded to slow down and pay attention while driving in work zones. Not all work zones look alike. Work zones can be moving operations, such as striping, patching or mowing. They can also be short term, temporary lane closures to make quick repairs or remove debris from the roadway.
