MoDOT Begins Construction at I-435 and I-70 Interchange on March 7

Expect Lane and Ramp Closures/Traffic Delays

JACKSON COUNTY – MoDOT Kansas City begins construction work at the Interstate 435 and I-70 interchange on Thursday, March 7.

  • On both Thursday, March 7, and Friday March 8, beginning at 9 a.m., crews will close the right lane of eastbound I-70 from 18th Street to Cleveland Ave. until approximately 3 p.m. each day. This closure is to stage signs, equipment, and detours routes.

This project will replace the bridges within the interchange and the new configuration will be a partial turbine design. This provides the opportunity to make additional safety improvements that include the full bridge replacements, removal of left exits, and improvements to the loop ramp configuration, ease of congestion, and crash reduction. Learn more about the project here.

This project will have immense impacts on traffic. In mid-March, crews will CLOSE the following ramps until December 2020:

  • Westbound I-70 loop ramp to southbound I-435
  • Eastbound I-70 loop ramp to northbound I-435.
  • On ramp from Manchester to westbound I-70
  • Eastbound I-70 exit ramp to Manchester
  • A detailed schedule about these ramp closures and other impacts will be released soon.

Traffic MUST follow the signed detours or find an alternate route. Additionally, motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and leave early. For more information about this project, visit our website. Check traffic conditions and find other routes using KC Scout. Please remember that all work zones are NO PHONE zones. Buckle up. Phone down. Arrive Alive.

Motorists are reminded to slow down and pay attention while driving in work zones. Not all work zones look alike. Work zones can be moving operations, such as striping, patching or mowing. They can also be short term, temporary lane closures to make quick repairs or remove debris from the roadway.
