Evans Road Bridge Over Route 65 Set to CLOSE

April 1 until Late July for Rehabilitation Project

Springfield, Greene County – The Evans Road bridge over U.S. Route 65 in southeast Springfield is scheduled to CLOSE to traffic on Monday, April 1, to allow crews to make major repairs to the bridge, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.

The bridge could remain closed until late July as crews remove the bridge deck/driving surface and replace it. Crews also will make additional repairs to other bridge components while the bridge is closed, including the installation of new steel bridge girders.

During the work, the bridge will be CLOSED to all traffic. The ramps at the interchange will remain open most of the time. However, drivers will only be able to make right turns at Evans Road from Route 65. They will not be able to cross the bridge during the work.

Drivers who need access to either side of Evans Road from Route 65 are urged to travel south on Route 65 to the Christian County Routes CC/J interchange in Ozark or north on Route 65 to the Battlefield Road interchange, turn around at the interchanges to reach their destinations. (The Battlefield Road detour will be modified when work begins to replace the original concrete pavement on Route 65 between Route 60 and Sunshine Street in Springfield later this year.)

A detour map is attached.

Traffic Impacts during nights of April 1-3:

  • Route 65 traffic will be routed up and over the ramps at Evans Road to allow contractor crews to remove the bridge deck over Route 65
  • Drivers on Evans Road will not have access to the ramps
  • Work hours: 9 p.m. and 6 a.m., Monday-Wednesday, April 1-3

The Evans Road bridge rehabilitation is part of a larger project to widen Route 65 to six lanes between a point south of Evans Road and the Route CC/J interchange in Ozark.

Here’s a look at the larger project:

  • Widen Route 65 to six lanes — three lanes in each direction — between a point south of Evans Road and Christian County Routes CC/J  to continue the progress to six lane Route 65 south to Ozark
  • Widen and rehabilitate southbound Route 65 bridge over Farmer’s Branch south of Evans Road to accommodate new lanes
  • Rehabilitate Evans Road bridge over Route 65
  • Prime contractor is Millstone Weber, LLC of St. Charles
  • Estimated total project cost is $10.2 million
  • Project scheduled for completion in August 2019
