About the Project

In partnership with the City of Lee’s Summit, MoDOT will construct a new interchange and replace the bridge at the north Route 291 junction and U.S. 50 Highway. The project will also include the relocation of the north outer road (Blue Parkway), improvements to 7th Terrace and work along U.S. 50 Highway. This project will be competed in a partnership with the City of Lee’s Summit and other entities.

Estimated Cost and Funding 

The project is currently estimated to cost 25 million.  

  • MoDOT funding for the project is provided by the statewide cost share program
  • Funding was also made available by the City of Lee's Summit by a City initiated TIF.
    • Additional funds are sought from multiple state partnerships, cost share, excise tax, and sales tax. 

Traffic Impacts and Timeline

This project will improve traffic operations and safety along the Route 291 (north) and U.S. 50 Highway interchange and corridor in Lee’s Summit. Current traffic congestion creates significant delays and safety issues. This project will also improve opportunities for (re)development, add multi-modal access and replace aging infrastructure. The project is currently in the planning process, the project letting is scheduled for early summer 2024 and the project is set to be completed by the end of 2025. 

Public Hearing Information

An in-person public hearing will be held at Lee’s Summit City Hall – City Council Chambers, 220 SE Green Street, Lee’s Summit, MO between the hours of 4:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 3, 2023. There will be no formal presentation and the hearing will be open house style. Project plans and exhibits prepared by the City of Lee’s Summit, MoDOT and the design consultant, Olsson, will be available to view. Attendees will have the opportunity to discuss the project and offer comments.
