Project Information

The Missouri Route 291 crossing over the Missouri River is an important transportation link connecting eastern Jackson County and Clay County.  An upcoming project will address improvements to the Missouri Route 291 River Bridges over the Missouri River. The project will include replacement of the northbound bridge and rehabilitation of the southbound bridge. The northbound bridge (Liberty Bend Bridge) has been in use since 1949 and while safe, it is scheduled to be replaced to meet current design standards. The southbound bridge was built in 2001 and is scheduled for improvements. This project will address the condition of the northbound bridge and provide maintenance on the southbound bridge.

Project Goals

  • Deliver the project within the program budget to complete the project no later than December 1, 2029.
  • Deliver safe and durable infrastructure that includes a Missouri River bridge that provides a century of service and considers future maintenance of the corridor.
  • Minimize construction impacts and maximize work zone safety to customers and workers.
  • Create opportunities to invest in and enhance the community.
