PROJECT MILESTONES
WHAT IS THIS PROJECT?
MoDOT is rehabilitating the 8th, 9th and 10th Street bridges (along with the southbound on-ramp from 10th St), on the northeast corner of the downtown loop, and the Chestnut Avenue bridge over I-70. Crews will be removing the overhanging sidewalk and bringing the new sidewalk onto the bridge deck itself, performing deck repairs and installing a 5-1/2” concrete overlay on the deck.
PROJECT UPDATES:
All bridges are completed and open. There is, however, a closure still in place of the ramp from eastbound I-70 to 11th St. Additionally, there will be lane and ramp closures in the area. All work is weather permitting.
WHY IS MoDOT DOING THIS AND WHAT ARE THE IMPACTS?
The decks on these bridges are deteriorated and require repairs for future use. The 5-1/2” overlay will provide a reliable driving surface for many years.
Crews will close the 8th, 9th & 10th Streets bridges one at a time. When 10th St is closed, the southbound on-ramp will also be closed. Chestnut Avenue will also be closed at various times during the construction of the project. There will be various lane and ramp closures on I-70 in off-peak hours. Updates to the public will be made via press releases, e-updates, and social media. Detours will be provided during the closures.
WHAT IS THE TIMELINE?
This project began with the closure of the 8th Street Bridge over I-70 in April 2018 followed by the closure of the 9th Street Bridge over I-70 in August. More bridge work to follow. The 8th St. bridge is currently delayed in completion due to utility issues. The expected completion date of this entire project is in May 2019.
