Route 364/Route 94/Muegge Road Interchange Improvements Presentation
What's the purpose of the project?
The purpose of this project is to improve capacity, safety, and mobility at the interchange of Route 94, Route 364, and Muegge Road in St. Charles County. When complete, the project will create a free flow traffic movement along Route 94 from Route 364. Currently, the interchange lacks access for the following movements:
• east and westbound Route 94 to northbound Muegge Road;
• southbound Muegge Road to east and westbound Route 94;
The project will construct a Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI) at the current interchange location with a signalized condition at the north end of the existing bridge over Route 94. To accommodate future travel volumes anticipated, the bridge over Route 94 will be widening to the east to accommodate another southbound lane. Furthermore, the signal at Portwest Drive will be removed, an additional lane eastbound between the interchange and Zumbehl Road will be added, and an additional westbound lane from Pralle Lane to Portwest Drive will be added to accommodate the new traffic safely. The resulting interchange will provide direct access for all traffic and reduce adverse travel for stakeholders traveling to and from Muegge Road.
What are the anticipated impacts?
Construction details have not been finalized at this time. Staged construction will allow the current interchange to remain in operation during much of the project. MoDOT will work with business owners and residents to ensure that property access is available during construction.
How much will this project cost?
The cost of construction is estimated at $22 million. The project is being funded through MoDOT’s Cost Share Program, with MoDOT responsible for approximately one-third of the construction costs, and the City of Saint Charles and St. Charles County contributing for the remainder of the project costs.
Is MoDOT purchasing property from land owners?
The proposed improvements are will coexist within the existing MoDOT right-of-way and their completion will create approximately 9 acres of excess right-of-way along Old Highway 94 adjacent to the existing MoDOT maintenance facility.
MoDOT will need to obtain temporary easements in order to construct various tie-ins to existing driveways along Muegge Road and Old Highway 94 within the project limits. A Right of Way representative will be contacting affected land owners in the Spring of 2021 to begin the acquisition process.
