Narrative Description:

Bridge F0786 is a 1922, rigid-connected, Warren alternating verticals pony truss bridge with concrete abutments. The bridge has a concrete deck with concrete curbs. The railing is a two-tier channel railing.

Bridge F0786 was constructed under project 198B, which was awarded on December 12, 1922, and included several drainage ditch bridges. The bridge was constructed with a timber deck with a 20’ roadway. In 1954 the bearings were replaced, the bridge was redecked with concrete and the roadway was widened six inches and the railing were replaced. Paul Montgomery of Poplar Bluff had the contract for the rehabilitation work.

The bridge is eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places under criteria A and C for local significance in transportation and engineering. The bridge is a good example of a standard plan Warren pony truss, adapted over time as the requirements of the Little River Drainage District changed. The bridge is also significant for its association with the early development of the state highway system.

MoDOT’s Historic Preservation Section is now accepting proposals for the relocation and reuse of the bridge or its components until December 31, 2024. A proposal checklist is available MoDOT’s Free Bridges website (http://www.modot.org/freebridges/). Preservation covenants may accompany the bridge.
