Project Summary
Updated 3/28/2023
The Wolf Creek and Hickory Creek Bridges, located on Route W southwest of Trenton, are both in poor condition, have speed restrictions for vehicles of a certain weight, and are in need of replacement. MoDOT and consultant firm HDR have designed new bridges to replace the current structures. Construction is planned Feb. 27 through late July 2023.
The Wolf Creek Bridge, located north of Route WW, was built in 1935 and carries more than 600 vehicles per day. The Hickory Creek Bridge, located north of Route F, was built in 1952 and carries more than 250 vehicles per day.
Project Progress
MoDOT's Planning and Design team, along with consultants from HDR, are designing a project which will replace both the Wolf Creek and Hickory Creek Bridges.
This project went out for contractor bids as part of MoDOT's Nov. 18, 2022, letting. At their December 2022 meeting, the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission awarded a $1,860,363.25 contract to Phillips Hardy, Inc. to complete the project.
The Notice to Proceed date - the earliest date on which the contractor could begin work - is Jan. 31, 2023.
By contract, all work must be complete Dec. 1, 2023, or the contractor may incur liquidated damages.
The roadway will close during construction of each bridge. A signed detour over Routes 6 and F will be in place during each bridge closure, as follows:
- Wolf Creek, located between Route WW and Route 6: Feb. 27 - July 6
- Hickory Creek, located between Route WW and Route F: April 10 - late July

Hickory Creek Bridge
Built in 1952
109-feet long, 20-feet wide
Timber construction
Speed restriction for vehicles weighing more than 14 tons
Striped for two lanes of traffic
Carries approximately 260 vehicles per day

Wolf Creek Bridge
Built in 1935
100-feet long, 20-feet wide
Timber construction
Speed restriction for vehicles weighing more than 13 tons
Striped for two lanes of traffic
Carries approximately 640 vehicles per day
Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: What is the current proposed detour?

A: You may call 888 ASK MODOT (1-888-275-6636) to speak with a Customer Service Representative.
Q: How can I stay updated on the project's progress?
