COMPLETE
The Palmer Creek Bridge on Chariton County U.S. Route 24, east of Brunswick, was built in 1958 and carries more than 1,650 vehicles each day. The deck of the bridge was in poor condition and is in need of replacement to improve the condition of the driving surface and extend the life of the structure. The project began Aug. 1, 2022, and was completed Dec. 14, 2022.
Project Progress
MoDOT's Planning and Design team, along with a consultant, designed a project which will replace the deck of the Chariton County U.S. Route 24 bridge over Palmer Creek, east of Brunswick.
The project to rehabilitate the Palmer Creek Bridge on Chariton County U.S. Route 24 was part of a bundle of four bridge projects. This bundle was part of the September 2021 letting where contractors submitted competitive bids on the project bundle. The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission awarded the $2,736,998.45 project to Emery Sapp & Sons, Inc. at their October 2021 meeting. At that time they gave the contractor a Dec. 6, 2021 Notice to Proceed. This is the earliest date the contractor could begin work.
The contractor tentatively plans to being work on the bridge in July 2022. Once construction begins, the contractor has 125 calendar days to complete the work. By contract, all four bridges in this bundle must be complete on or before Dec. 1, 2022 or the contractor may incur liquidated damages.
