When the contract is awarded, the contractor will work with MoDOT to determine the exact construction schedule.

Closure Information:

By contract, the contractor will have a total of 180 working days to complete the project. This includes a 55-day full closure of the southbound bridge and a separate 45-day full closure of the northbound bridge. Other stages of construction will take place under single-lane closures, with the exception of intermittent closures of 6th Street.

The exact date of the road closures and the planned reopening will be established after the contract is awarded. This project is expected to begin in 2023 and could extend two construction seasons into 2024.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: Why are you closing I-229?

A: The project team evaluated various options with the goal to limit the overall impact to motorists.

A full closure during the bridge deck and superstructure rehabilitation portions of the project is necessary, as it requires work across both lanes of traffic. By completing this portion of construction under a full closure, crews will be able to work more efficiently reducing the overall project construction time and impact to motorists.

Q: What is the current proposed detour?

A: Motorists will be directed along signed detours utilizing I-29 and U.S. Route 36 during the closure of each north and southbound bridge.

Click the link to the right to view the detour plans. In these plans, Phase 1 notates when the southbound bridge will be closed and Phase 2 notates when the northbound bridge will be closed.
