Interstate 44 Phelps/Crawford County Improvements
Beginning in April 2022, over 50 miles of Interstate 44 in Phelps and Crawford counties will undergo several improvements (see list below). The work will take place through 2023.

This project started in April 2022. It is scheduled to be complete by 2024.
Cost:
The contract for the project was awarded for $54,613,403.
Work Taking Place:
This project will involve several phases:
- Resurfacing of the eastbound and westbound lanes between Sugar Tree Road west of Rolla and Route F west of Cuba.
- Reconstruction of pavement in the eastbound lanes between Rolla and St. James.
- Rehabilitation of the bridges over the Bourbouse River Branch west of St. James.
- Culvert extension at the East Fork of Little Beaver Creek west of Rolla.
Traffic Impact:
Nighttime lane closures for westbound shoulder reconstruction and asphalt resurfacing. Long-term lane closures for bridge rehab work and concrete overlay replacement. Concrete barriers will be in place to separate traffic from the work area during the concrete overlay replacement.
Two lanes in each direction will be maintained for duration of eastbound reconstruction, but lane widths will be reduced, and alignment will eventually be shifted.
Project Milestones
The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission awarded the contract for the project to Emery Sapp and Sons, which submitted the low bid of $54,613,403.
Work is taking place between St, James (mile marker 194) and Rolla (mile marker 186), between the hours of 7 p.m. and 6 a.m.
