Intersection Improvements on Route 60 in Barry & Lawrence Counties Focus of Public Meetings June 17
Monett – The public is invited to participate in public meetings, either in-person or virtual (online), starting Monday, June 17, to learn more about plans to resurface and make intersection improvements along U.S. Route 60 in Barry and Lawrence...
Frequently Asked Questions:
Will there be any road closures during this project?
There are no plans to close U.S. Route 60 during this project. However, Barry County Road 1100 may be closed during construction of the roundabout.
Will there be any signed detours?
No, there are no signed detours planned for this project. Drivers are encouraged to find alternate routes to avoid the work zones during construction.
Why was a roundabout chosen for this location instead of traffic signals?
Typical signalized intersections have approximately 20-30 conflict points, or spots where vehicles could collide. Roundabouts reduce this number to eight (8). Few conflict points, combined with slower speeds and calmer traffic, translate into as much as 76 percent fewer crashes. Signals also increase the delay of the traveling public due to a signal's cycle time. With a roundabout, an approaching vehicle does not come to a complete stop unless there is already a conflicting vehicle inside the roundabout’s circle.
Will semi-trucks, school buses and other large vehicles be able to easily drive through the roundabout?
Yes, most roundabouts are designed with a truck apron to accommodate large vehicles like semi-trucks, school buses, farm equipment, etc.
Why turn lanes at these locations?
Dedicated left- and right-turn lanes are used in situations where traffic volumes and speeds are relatively high and crashes are likely to occur at intersections. Turn lanes are an asset in promoting safety and improved traffic flow.
